International Award of Photography to Newsha Tavakolian

The award ceremony will take place on September 29th at 5 p.m. at Sala Ajace, Loggia del Lionello, in Udine. Franco Iacop, the President of the Regional Council of Friuli Venezia Giulia, will be present. At the end of the ceremony, the personal exhibition of Newsha Tavakolian will be opened at Tina Modotti Gallery (Via Paolo Sarpi) in Udine.

The photojournalist Newsha Tavakolan (Tehran, 1981) worked for many reformist newspapers and she documented wars in Iraq and Lebanon, the earthquake in Pakistan and many other international events. Her reportage are characterized by an original capacity to point out new and particular aspects of Middle East never published before in western magazines or newspapers.
In 2002 she began working in an international sphere and she entered Polaris Agency. Her photos has been published in New York Times, Stern, Newsweek, Le Figaro and Time Magazine. In 2009 she followed the presidential election in Iran and she recorded many manifestations of protest.
With 5 other women photojournalists from South Africa, Georgia, Brazil, and Spain she founded Eve (Evephotographers) to explain women’ s difficulties all around the word.
Her photos are conserved at Victoria & Albert Museum, Los Angeles Country Museum of Art, at British Museum, at Boston Museum of Fine Art and at CRAF in Spilimbergo.
In 2006 she got the National Geographical Society Award and in 2015 she entered Magnum, the famous photo-agency founded by Henri Cartier Bresson, Robert Capa and David Seymour “Chim”.
