Letizia Battaglia ( Friuli Venezia Giulia Fotografia Award 2017)
July 1 – September 3
Palazzo Tadea, Spilimbergo
Letizia Battaglia was born in Palermo in 1935. She is famous especially for her photos about mafia during the “lead years” but the crime news is only a part of her long photographic carrier: she also worked on portraiture (the portraits of little girls in the streets of Palermo are well known), on nude, and even on naturalistic photography. She was the first European photographer who won the prestigious Eugene Smith Award in 1985. She have gotten a lot of prizes and have presented her photos all over the world. After 10 years devoted to politic between 1986 and 1994, she turned back to photography and she is considered as one of the best ever Italian photographers.
